Business Models were Broken at PitchDeck.

Entrepreneurs, angel investors and exceptional wine. What could be better?

Last night, the Investment Partner Network (IPN), a community dedicated to connecting and fostering dialog amongst venture capital funds, private equity funds and other strategic funds, kicked off its PitchDeck series in Accelerate-IT’s La Jolla Office.

Throughout the night, four startups had the opportunity to sample wines grown and crafted in California’s Russian River Valley, mingle and share ideas with their peers and pitch their businesses to a panel of local angel investors. The PitchDeck was interactive, and encouraged questions by the angels to aid in their assessment of the ventures.

Sponsors for the event included Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and Accelerate-IT Ventures. As the headline sponsor, Eddie V’s Sommelier paired their masterfully prepared gourmet receptions with choice wines, courtesy of DuMol, wineries throughout the evening. After a brief explanation of the history of the wines and exquisite appetizers that included scallop ceviche and steak tartare, the entrepreneurs were ready to strut their stuff.

And strut they did. Each of the four startups, which consisted of Perfectna, Green Box, GROWConnections and FitMoo, delivered an incredible performance that combined a thorough understanding of their industries, solid business models and intense enthusiasm. Each entrepreneur had a total of twenty minutes for their pitch, which broke down to roughly ten minutes for the presentation, and ten for Q&A. Pre and post-game interviews with the founders of the four startups were conducted by Accelerate-IT, stay tuned.

And to those impressed with last night: there’s more to come. The La Jolla PitchDeck was the just the first event in a national series that aims to bring promising local entrepreneurs and investors together for an interactive engagement. Slated to appear in Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Boston later this year, the PitchDeck is one of the cornerstones of the IPN’s farm system program for technology startups. The goal is to allow startups that are ready for the next stage a chance to showcase their ideas and put their talent out there. With the next generation of technology focused investors on hand, the PitchDeck series gives early dynamic stage startups the opportunity to raise financing. By vetting out quality deal flow for seed stage funding, the IPN provides startups with both the necessary guidance and network required for growth.
